Akadia Event Center is a 12,951-square-foot luxury event venue in Missouri City, Texas, located in the southwest metro Houston area off Beltway 8. The site includes a chapel, a ballroom with seating for up to 300 guests, on-site parking, a helipad, and a reflective lake. To support the project’s water distribution needs, NWPX Park supplied a water meter vault and three backflow prevention systems, all manufactured at its Houston plant and installed by Align Contractors, LLC.
The project utilizes an NWPX MeterVault® 8-inch Domestic & Fire Combination Water Meter Assembly. The system was hydrostatically tested prior to shipping and delivered pre-plumbed inside a 6-foot by 13-foot precast concrete vault for efficient installation. The vault is topped with a galvanized, three-section checker plate cover featuring a hinged hatchway for authorized access. NWPX fire-rated water meters are designed to meet NSF-61 and AWWA C703 standards and are well-suited for large commercial applications with fluctuating flow rates where a single water line serves both domestic water and fire protection needs.
The venue’s potable water supply is protected by three NWPX BackFlo® reduced pressure backflow preventers in 8-inch, 3-inch, and 2-inch sizes. Each system includes test valves and is mounted on a precast concrete base with galvanized pipe supports. Manufactured per project specifications, the 8-inch and 3-inch assemblies are equipped with gate valves, while the 2-inch assembly includes ball valves. These backflow preventers prevent reversal of flow within the water system, protecting against both health and non-health cross-contamination.
By supplying complete, turnkey assemblies that were factory-tested prior to delivery, NWPX Park reduced on-site labor and simplified installation. The systems were quickly set in place and connected directly to the water line, streamlining this phase of the project and reducing risk for both the contractor and owner.
